»Modenschau mit Musik«U4, Wien 1983

Modeobjekte, Konzept: Elisa Rose jr.
Musik, Konzept: Gary Danner/Die Nervösen Vögel

Elisa Rose, at that time a student of Karl Lagerfeld at the University of Applied Art in Vienna, created the couture, Danner’s band Die nervösen Vögel played live during the defilee. Most of the creations were hand-painted, the jewellery was hand-made. The live band used typical post-punk instrumentation (bass/Alfred Volgger, guitar/Gary Danner, drums/Martin Wich), as well as tape loops, and a fourth band member/Thomas Szabolcs experimented live at the mixing desk.

This performance was the start of the ongoing cooperation between the duo Elisa Rose and Gary Danner, which resulted in the founding of Station Rose in 1988.

RE-EDIT OF WEB STREAMING PROJECT FOR TV-SERIES ON HR-FERNSEHEN/ARD DIGITAL

storyboard ‹best of webcasting31› on TV | Foto: Elisa Rose | © Station Rose

Parallel to STReaming, Station Rose started with a series of TV productions on from may 2002.
Details:

Out of 189 webcasts, which have taken place at www.stationrose.com so far, a special videoedition is re-edited for TV each month. Selected segments from webcasts, which originally were STReamed as 1-hour audio-visual freeform sessions, are resampled, relooped, morphed, distorted & smoothed, recombined, stretched, cut etc. Inverse publishing – from realtime in the net to TV – lets us play with the language of »the old media«. The avantgarde approach of freeform STReaming becomes cut-up and turns into pop with a mass audience in a mass medium. So far STR arrived at »Best of Webcasting 31«.

Station Rose    BIOGRAFISCHE DATEN

As one of the first artist-groups worldwide, Station Rose had used the possibilities of interactive media and especially of the internet in their work. Performances and lectures in art galleries, universities and museums are equally important as performances at media festivals and in the clubscene.
Station Rose/STR was founded in Vienna, Austria, in 1988 by Elisa Rose (visuals) and Gary Danner (sound) as an open multimedia lab, after Rose and Danner had graduated from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. From 1988-1991 Station Rose was located in todays (art)center of the city, at Margaretenstrasse 26, in the 4th district. On from the beginning the activities of STR spanned from art production, DVD-, CD-, CD ROM- and vinyl productions, research on Virtual Realities (in cooperation with the Austrian Ministry of Science and Research), to lectures and performing in the underground, museums, galleries and the internet ‹www.stationrose.com›. Equipped with computer, scanner and sampler, and funded by a post-graduate grant, STR was doing field-research in Cairo/Egypt in 1988/89.
At the end of the eighties, STR started their Gunafa Clubbings in Vienna and Frankfurt, the first online-clubevents worldwide, playing sounds and visuals in realtime. In 1991 they moved to Frankfurt, and went online at the same time.
Since January 1999 STR performs live in the internet at ‹http://www.stationrose.com›.

2002-2004 Elisa Rose and Gary Danner shared a professorship (Media Production) at the University of Applied Sciences in Darmstadt.

Since 2002 they have their regular TV show at hr-fernsehen/ARD Digital called »Best of Webcasting«. So far 31 episodes (31 hours of audio-visual art) have been produced.

Station Rose has released on Gunafa, Sony Music, ZYX Music, Mille Plateaux, edition selene, International Deejay Gigolo Records, Crippled Dick Hot Wax.
